Who we are

Sterling was founded in 1969 by Melvin W. Jackson as a real estate development and construction firm. Initial efforts included construction of low income housing under a variety of U.S. governmental programs. Sterling expanded into a full service real estate development firm, completing projects in residential, apartment, retail and office development. In all, Sterling has completed 1,600 single family home sites, 3,400 apartment units, 1,150,000 square feet of office and retail space, for a total value of $380M. Sterling has been a full or partial owner of the majority of projects undertaken. Some of our signature developments include Sterling Plaza office building, Virginia Square Shopping Center and Cedar Ridge Estates.

Stuart Jackson

Stuart joined Sterling in 1994, initially focused on marketing and lease negotiations for Sterling’s portfolio of office and retail properties. Stuart handled all the construction services for the portfolio and began to offer third party construction management and tenant improvement services to other owners. Projects included full suite build-outs, lobby renovations and large office/showroom finish-outs. In the late 1990’s, recognizing an opportunity, Stuart began to develop infill residential projects. Some of these projects were done in conjunction with the Dallas County Replacement Housing Program. Sterling expanded this construction experience into residential community development. Stuart led the land development projects, including design, engineering, city negotiations, permits and approvals, construction management, budgets and debt acquisition, as well as marketing and selling the lots. Stuart is now Managing Partner of Sterling.

Stuart grew up in Dallas, graduating from Highland Park High School. Stuart earned a BA in History and a minor in International Studies at Wake Forest University. Stuart is a member of the Home Builders Association of Greater Dallas, the Urban Land Institute of North Texas and Residential Strategies.
